About ACAL

The Animal Concern Advice Line (ACAL) was established in 2001 to take on the charitable work of its sister charity Animal Concern, which was founded as The Scottish Anti-Vivisection Society in 1876.

It was set up to address the lack of animal advice services available that answer the phone after 5pm, because difficult situations involving animals don’t follow a 9-5 work schedule to accommodate human availability!

ACAL exists to provide support for people who aren’t sure who to call or what to do with a situation involving animals. Sometimes it just provides emotional support during a difficult time, such as surrendering a loved pet or to talk about the difficult decision to put an animal down, or to understand the laws around cats and dogs.

The advice line depends entirely on donations from the public, so please consider donating if you are able, or leaving a legacy to the Animal Concern Advice Line.
