Lost Dogs

Losing your dog can be a terrifying experience. Whether it ran away in fright from fireworks, slipped through an open gate, or just wandered off, it’s hard not to fear the worst.

The best way to get your dog back to you is to ensure it is microchipped with your updated contact info, and to have a collar that has your phone number or home address on it.

What to do if your dog goes missing:

  • Contact your local dog warden. Each council has its own system for registering and responding to dog concerns and may involve filling out a form online but take this step to find out if they have picked up your dog.

  • Check with your local vets to see if your dog has been brought in.

  • Go to Animal Search UK | The UKs largest missing pet organisation to register your dog as missing.

  • If you can, post details of the dog on social media. For example, search Facebook for ‘Lost/Found Dog Posts in (your area)’ to find local groups that may be able to help.

Local Councils have a legal duty to care for stray dogs for seven days in the hope they can be reunited with their owners. Having your dog microchipped will make that much easier.
